  1. NO-TRACE CAMPING --

  3. Getting away from it all is truly a pleasure; Alaska
  4. provides some of the nation's most beautiful and re-
  5. mote public lands on which to do just that. In getting
  6. away from it all, please don't bring it all with you,
  7. and then leave it behind!  No-trace camping is a name
  8. for back-to-basics camping which preserves the remote,
  9. wilderness quality we each seek. No-trace camping means
  10. you come and go without a trace. "Take only pictures;
  11. leave only footprints." And go light on the footprints.
  12. If there is an established trail, stay on it. Don't
  13. widen a wet or muddy spot by going around it. In open
  14. and untraveled areas, choose your route to minimize
  15. damage to plants and soil. Travel in small groups. Camp
  16. within established sites to prevent spread of bare
  17. areas and to minimize additional disturbances. Use ex-
  18. isting campsites and fire circles. Use only dead and
  19. down wood or a campstove. Build your fire on mineral
  20. soil, and make sure it's deat out when you leave. Use
  21. the "cat method" of elimination in dealing with human
  22. wastes. Regarding litter, if you pack it in, pack it
  23. out. Leave your campsite cleaner than you found it.
